The quest may be started by talking to the NPC Fishing Guru, located at the eastern shore of Cinnabar city.
Fishing Guru is a fisherman who has mastered all types of fishing rods and if you may prove you are worthy, he's willing to give you better rods.
Old Rod - The rod you obtain when you start playing.

Pokemons, which you can fish out with this fishing rod are: Magikarp, Krabby, Goldeen, Horsea, Poliwag, Wooper, Remoraid, Surskit.

Great Rod
Fisherman
Here you just have to agree to be a fisherman and you start your journey with fishing.
Fishing skill
You need to have 30 fishing lvl and 30 character lvl.
Outfit
As a real fisherman you also need to have fisherman outfit.
You are going to market in Celadon, Enter 3rd floor and from NPC Amy you buy Fisherman outfit for 10hd. Come back to Guru and ask for another mission.
Task
Next mission is to kill specified ammount of pokemons known as Tasks. You can take only 1 task at the same time. For every completed task in this mission you will receive 500 experience points. These are pokemons that you have to kill and their ammount:

Catching
You have to also prove that you can catch pokemons. You have to catch pokemons that you killed in above tasks: Magikarp, Krabby, Goldeen, Horsea and Poliwag.
Reward
When you complete above missions, you are worthy to wield good rod. Write to fisherman hi yes yes, so he will give you better fishing rod.
Great Rod
Pokemons, which you can fish out with this fishing rod are: Krabby, Goldeen, Horsea, Poliwag, Wooper, Remoraid, Tentacool, Staryu, Marill, Chinchou, Qwilfish, Clamperl, Barboach, Carvanha, Lotad.
Super Rod
Fishing skill
You need to have 60 fishing lvl and 60 character lvl.
Task
You again have to complete tasks. For every completed task in this mission you will receive 900 Experience points. These are pokemons that you have to kill and their ammount:

Pokemons, which you can fish out with this fishing rod are: Poliwhirl, Starmie, Kingler, Seadra, Seaking, Lanturn, Azumarill, Corphish, Lombre, Sharpedo.
Ultra Rod
Quest of the Elements
First mission to reveive better fishing rod is to complete Quest of the Elements. So you also need to have 100lvl.
Fishing skill
You need to have 80 fishing lvl and 90 character lvl.
Task
You again have to complete tasks. For every completed task in this mission you will receive 1500 Experience points. These are pokemons that you have to kill and their ammount:
